How to Add or Remove Managers from a YouTube Channel

To add or remove a YouTube manager from a YouTube account, ensure you are logged in and click on your Profile Icon in the top right. From the drop-down select Settings. Go to Channel Managers and select Manage Permissions. From here you can Invite Managers to help with your channel or Remove Managers that no longer need access.

This guide assumes you have already created a Brand Account. If you have not, you will need to follow How to Create a YouTube Brand Account guide before proceeding.

Stuck on Step 4 of this guide? You do not have a Brand Account setup yet.

Step 1

Go to the YouTube Homepage and login in the correct account. If you are a manager of multiple accounts, you will need to ensure you have the correct channel selected.

Step 2

Click on your Profile Icon in the top right of the screen. This will present a drop-down menu with various options.

Step 3

Select the cog icon labelled Settings. You are directed to a new web page.

Step 4

Under Your YouTube Channel find the heading Channel Managers. To the right of this area, select Add or Remove Managers. It will open a new screen.

Step 5

Under the Users heading select the blue button; Manage Permissions. If you do not see this option, you need to login with an account has sufficient administrator permissions.

Step 6

A popup will now show you who has access to your channel and the permission levels associated with each user.

  • Add a new manager, go to Step 7
  • Remove an existing manager go to Step 8
  • Change Permissions for a manager go to Step 9

Step 7: Add New YouTube Manager

Click on the Plus Person Icon in the top right of the popup screen. A new popup will appear and ask you to enter the new managers Email Address.

Directly under the email address is an option to Choose a Role. There are four options; Primary Owner, Owner, Manager and Community Manager. You will only see options available to you, depending on your own permission levels.

Once the Email Address and Role is setup, click the Invite button to ask them to join your channel as a manager.

The new manager needs to accept the invitation.

You can see their status on the Permissions Screen. For example, it may say Invited (but grayed out), this means the invitation has been sent and you are waiting for the manager to accept the invitation.

Step 8: Remove Existing Manager

Click on the Cross (X) beside the correct managers account details. This will present you with a warning popup.

If you are sure you want to completely remove them from your account, select Revoke. The manager will no longer have any access to your YouTube channel.

Step 9: Change Manager Permissions

Click on the Down Arrow beside the correct managers account details. This will present you with a drop-down with options to change permissions. Select the new permissions you would like that manager to have.

Note: If you want a manager to become the Primary Owner, this is easiest to achieve by logging in as the Primary Owner and delegating ownership permissions.
