Today we look at how to change from dark to light mode in Shotcut. The skin is antithetical and does not change the functionality in Shotcut. This means that whether you use the light, dark or system skin, Shotcut still performs in exactly the same way. Because there are three skins available, when you watch other guides, you may notice it doesn’t look exactly the same as yours. This is nothing to be concerned about.
Changing the Theme from Dark to Light Mode in Shotcut
- Open Shotcut
- Go to the Settings tab towards the top of the screen
- Towards the bottom of the menu is the word Theme, hover of it to produce a sub-menu
- On the sub-menu select the Theme you wish to apply
- By default the Fusion Dark option is selected
An important tip is to close down Shotcut and open it again after changing the theme. Shotcut attempts to change theme as you select it, but often some elements get stuck, resulting in a weird mix between the two themes. A simple close and open will fix any theme issues.
Once you have selected your theme Shotcut will remember your settings. So you do not need to keep changing the theme settings unless you want to swap between them.
At the time of writing this article it is not possible to create your own themes in Shotcut and there is no immediate plan to make this available. However, Shotcut does have the two most common requirements – dark or light. So whilst customization is not an options, you should be able to get along with one or the other pre-built themes. Shotcut is under continuous improvement too, so it doesn’t mean to say skins do not become available in the future.
